Kopsavilkums
jautājumi ir: Vai pastāv atšķirības stresa pārvarēšanas stratēģijās pieaugušajiem ar un bez STG?;
Tension-type headaches (TTH) account for approximately 70% of all primary headaches (Sundaramoorthy, 2023) and their causes are closely related to psychological factors, such as experiencing excessive stress (Onan et al. 2023). Reaserch show that using adaptive stress coping strategies and practicing self-compassion can be an effective way to reduce perceived stress (Ewert, Vater, et al., 2021) and are associated with lower TTH scores. Given the importance of psychological factors in the development of TTH, there is a lack of research in Latvia that would examine these headaches in the field of psychology. The aim of the study is to determine the differences between stress coping strategies and self-compassion in adults with and without frequent episodic or chronic tension-type headaches. The research questions are: Are there differences in stress coping strategies in adults with and without TTH?; Are there differences in self-compassion between adults with and without TTH?; Is there a relationship between stress coping strategies and self-compassion?. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study participants, to examine the differences, the study included 482 participants, who were divided into two groups - Adults with TTH (N = 58) and Adults without TTH (N = 424). The age of the participants ranged from 18 to 75 years (M = 26.21; SD = 10.01). The participants included in the study are 85.1% female and 14.2% male. The study revealed significant differences in stress coping strategies between the groups. People without TTH used "Planning" (z = 5.03, p<0.01) and "Positive reappraisal of experiences and personal growth" (z = 4.06, p<0.01) more often. People with STG, on the other hand, were more likely to use "Alcohol/drug use" (z = −2.64, p<0.01). Similarly, adults without STG showed higher self-compassion scores (z = 3.43, p<0.01). Self-compassion correlated positively with "Positive reappraisal of experiences and personal growth" (rs = 0.51, p<0.01) and negatively with "Focusing on emotions and getting rid of them" (rs = -0.31, p<0.01). It was concluded that individuals without TTH have higher self-compassion scores and use more adaptive stress management strategies in their daily lives compared to adults who experience these headaches. The results obtained in the study could be valuable todisseminate to a broader segment of the population who experience headaches in their daily lives, in order to promote understanding of self-compassion and the use of effective stress management strategies, and potentially overcome stressful situations more successfully, thus preventing or reducing the occurrence of headaches.
