Kopsavilkums
The bachelor’s thesis “Dynamics of the Running Speed Adjustments for Middle- and Long-Distance Runners in Response to Changes in Surface Inclination” explores a critical issue in endurance sports: the adjustment of running speed on varied terrain to maintain a constant physiological intensity. The study analyzes the biomechanical and physiological interactions between the running surface slope and athletes’ internal physiological indicators (heart rate, lactate concentration, relative VO₂). The aim of the research was to determine the optimal running speed adjustments at different incline angles to avoid excessive overload or insufficient training intensity. The practical part of the research was conducted with Latvian national team candidates, performing controlled laboratory tests. The results show that adjusting the speed for different surface slopes can maintain stable physiological intensity, which improves training efficiency and reduces the risk of overtraining. The thesis provides practical recommendations for runners and their coaches on speed adjustment strategies in various slope conditions, as well as suggestions for training planning to maximize endurance development and improve competition performance.
