Kopsavilkums
This bachelor's thesis, titled "The role of economic factors in investment attraction among Baltic start-ups," explores the significance of economic conditions on the ability of start-ups in Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania to secure investments. The study aims to identify key economic factors influencing investment attraction, analyse regional investment trends, and develop proposals to enhance funding opportunities for Baltic start-ups. The research is based on a combination of theoretical analysis and empirical data, incorporating a literature analysis, secondary data analysis, and qualitative research through expert interviews. The study examines core economic indicators such as GDP growth, inflation rates, government support, assessing their effect on investor confidence and capital flow into the start-up ecosystem. Additionally, theoretical models of investment attraction are reviewed to provide a structured framework for understanding investor behaviour in the Baltic region. The findings reveal that foreign investment behaviour is influenced by a range of factors beyond economic indicators alone. While GDP growth, inflation, and government support are important, political and institutional stability, a supportive regulatory environment, access to skilled talent, and the Baltic region’s strategic EU position are equally crucial for attracting investment. Since 2021, foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows in the Baltic states have been gradually declining, and the number of newly established start-ups has also decreased, raising concerns about the region’s future competitiveness and innovation capacity is still crucial. Experts noted that emerging sectors such as green technology, artificial intelligence, digital health, and fintech are increasingly drawing investor attention due to their alignment with global trends. Therefore, based on these insights, proposals were developed to help Baltic start-ups attract investment more effectively, focusing on creating sustainability-driven business models, enhancing international visibility, forging global connections early, and leveraging the region’s strengths in infrastructure and innovation.
