Abstract
The topic of the bachelor's thesis is "Systematic review: The Impact of Unilateral Hearing Loss on Child's Speech and Language". A systematic review was made with the purpose of systematic search, gathering information, and analytical approach to studies about the impact of unilateral sensor hearing impairment on a child's speech and language development. The problem is topical - for example, in the world’s most developed countries about 1.86 in 1000 children do not have have sensory hearing impairment (> 40dB), and in 30-40% of cases they are unilateral. Although neonatal hearing screening is available almost everywhere in the world, unilateral hearing loss is often detected late. The report reflects the cognitive capacities, speech, and language development of children with unilateral hearing impairments compared to peers with normal hearing. The main conclusion that occurs during the study is, that for children with unilateral hearing loss and speech and language development delays are often observed, but, by developing an individual educational plan, providing pedagogical support and adjunctive therapy, the child’s learning process can be eased, thus, providing the opportunity to catch up with the delayed development.
