Kopsavilkums
Currently in Latvia one of the major causes of death is cardiovascular disease, with in 2017 over 60% of all deaths in woman and up to 49% in men being cardiovascular in nature. The main objective of this study was to evaluate if the primary care of diabetes mellitus type 2 patients in Latvia is contributing to the current cardiovascular disease crisis of the country. Additionally, the aim was to identify care objectives to improve the complication rate of diabetes mellitus type 2. The study shows that there are significant discrepancies between the diabetic care-quality parameters from the Latvian diabetic population and that from the Dutch population which are likely to explain at least partly the higher mortality rates in Latvia.
