Abstract
The digitalization of the healthcare system (HCS) is reaching a new level. With huge data sets, analyzing software, the availability of artificial intelligence and mobile applications ready to enter the market, the medical care will undergo fundamental changes. Current developments in the health industry, realignments in data protection laws and changes in health policies offer a glimpse into the future transformations of the healthcare sector. Patients, doctors and other health care professionals will witness a gradual change in their work and relationship with patients and among professionals. They have to come to an arrangement with the changes and challenges of this new era. New health policies define the way in which innovative technologies are introduced into the HCS. Laws and regulations need to be adapted or passed to implement novelties without causing harm. Physicians are at the frontline of this revolution and their patients are directly dependent on their ability of mastering its challenges. Reviewing current incentives of digitalizing healthcare in different states helps to understand the forthcoming changes brought by the digitalization of the HCS and by that help to maintain a continuous quality of care.
