Kopsavilkums

Pētījuma mērķis ir noskaidrot vai novērotāju skaits samazinās iespēju, ka indivīds iesaistīsies un palīdzēs cietušajam, balstoties uz (Fischer, et al., 2011) veikto novērotāja efekta meta analīzi, (Kowalski, et al., 2014) veikto kibermobinga meta analīzi un līdz šim veiktajiem pētījumiem par novērotāja efektu virtuālajā vidē. Galvenie pētījuma jautājumi iekļauj – “Vai novērotāju skaits samazinās iespēju, ka indivīds iesaistīsies un palīdzēs cietušajam?” un “Kā novērotāju skaits ietekmēs dažādas iesaistīšanās reakcijas kibermobinga situācijā?”. Pētījuma izlasi sastādīja 78 personas (80% sieviešu), vecumā no 18 līdz 25 gadiem.
The aim of the study is to clarify whether the number of observers will reduce the possibility that the individual will engage in and help the victim based on a meta-analysis of the bystander effect carried out by (Fischer, et al., 2011), the meta-analysis of the Cyber-bullying (Kowalski, et al., 2014) and the studies carried out so far on the bystander effect in the virtual environment. The main questions of the study included: “Will the group of observers reduce the possibility that the individual will engage and help the victim?” and “How will the number of observers affect different engagement reactions in the cyber-bullying situation?”. 78 individuals (80% of women), aged 18 to 25, were selected. In the course of the quasi-experiment, respondents were stratified into 3 groups (26 in each), based on social media use, groups differed with the number of stimulus materials and apparent observers. The exclusion criterion was an item that was incorrectly answered by 3 respondents and excluded from the analysis of the final result. The Social Media usage scale (Eastin, LaRose, 2000), and the General intention to intervene item, structured in similar ways as in previous studies, were used in the quasi-experiment process. Within the framework of the study, stimulant material was developed with an artificial cyber-bullying situation that differed between the groups in terms of the number of observers. In the study procedure, the participants executed the first part of the study, then they were divided into 3 stratified groups and a second portion of the study was sent to their email addresses, which differed with the stimuli materials and apparent observers in it. The results obtained were statistically insignificant, although at trend level it was observed that the number of apparent observers did not affect the possibility that the individual will help, although, in the event of an increase in the number of observers, the possibility of an individual engaging through direct or indirect forms of engagement response was increased. The results obtained can be used in further studies that will seek to complement the knowledge of the presence of bystander effects in the virtual environment.
