Kopsavilkums

Katrā dzīvā būtnē pastāv sevis pasargāšanas instinkts, toties cilvēki atšķirībā no dzīvniekiem atpazīst konceptuāli, ka neskatoties uz to ilgstošām pūlēm uz izdzīvošanu, to eksistence var beigties jebkuru katru brīdi (Becker, 1973; Greenberg et al., 1986). Lai veicinātu gan nāves tēmas izpēti latvijas kultūrvidē, gan interesi par nāves tēmu ir būtiski adaptēt daudzdimensiālu instrumentu, kuru var daudzveidīgi pielietot. Tādēļ pētījuma mērķis bija adaptēt attieksmes pret nāvi aptauju (Death attitude profile revised Wong & Reker, 1994) latviešu valodā. Pētijumā piedalijās 244 dalībnieki vecumos no 18 līdz 71 (M = 34,83, SD = 14,80, 82,4% sievietes), kuri saprot latviešu valodu.
Death is an inevitable part of every living being's life, and attitudes toward it can be influenced by various factors and encounters with specific life situations. Every living being possesses a self-preservation instinct; however, unlike animals, humans conceptually recognize that, despite continuous efforts to survive, their existence can end at any moment (Becker, 1973; Greenberg et al., 1986). To promote both the exploration of the topic of death within the Latvian cultural context and interest in the subject itself, it is essential to adapt a multidimensional instrument that can be applied in a variety of ways. Therefore, the aim of this study was to adapt the Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R) questionnaire (Wong & Reker, 1994) into Latvian. The study included 244 participants aged 18 to 71 (M = 34.83, SD = 14.80), 82.4% of whom were women, all proficient in the Latvian language. Data were collected using the adapted Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R) questionnaire through an online survey platform. The results of the study revealed that the death attitude questionnaire was successfully adapted. The obtained psychometric indicators of the questionnaire demonstrated acceptable to high levels of reliability. Test-retest results indicated the temporal stability of the adapted instrument. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients met accepted psychometric standards and, when compared to the original questionnaire, not only aligned but in some subscales even slightly exceeded the original values. Furthermore, factor analysis confirmed that the factor structure of the adapted instrument matched the original subscale distribution, indicating structural consistency with the original measure. Overall, the results suggest that the DAP-R was successfully adapted for use in the Latvian cultural context and may also be applicable in the adaptation of other death-related assessment tools.
