Kopsavilkums

Shift work, non-traditional working hours, remarkably impact the circadian rhythm which further results in sleep disturbances as well as health implications. Previous studies display how shift work leads to a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, immune system dysfunction, endocrine disorders, dyslipidemia, psychological disorders, reproductive health issues along with cancer. The suppression of melatonin can further aggravate sleep disturbance causing fragmented sleep, insomnia, and daytime sleepiness. Furthermore, disturbances in sleep patterns cause an imbalance in cortisol which impacts psychological stress and prolonged health issues. These health implications exhibit the importance of countermeasures such as optimizing shift schedules, promoting sleep hygiene, increasing physical activity, light exposure, and health monitoring.
