Kopsavilkums

The prevalence of mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety continues to increase both in the general population and among students (Liu et al., 2022). One of the factors associated with mental health is psychological resilience, which can be simply defined as the ability to successfully adapt to difficulties, trauma, and other significant stressors and to recover from them (APA, 2011). Assessing the level of psychological resilience among the students of the study program "Nursing" allows for evaluating how adequate this level is and identifying areas that require attention in order to strengthen the internal resources of future nurses both during their studies and in clinical practice, as well as to enhance their motivation to pursue a career in the profession. The aim of the bachelor’s thesis “Psychological resilience among students of the study programme “Nursing”” is to compare the level of psychological resilience among first- and fourth-year students and to explore the influence of socio-demographic factors on resilience levels. Method. The study involved 221 students from two universities in the Republic of Latvia, enrolled in the bachelor's degree program “Nursing” in their first and fourth year. Of the participants, 205 were women and 16 were men, aged 19 to 58 years (Me = 23; Q1–Q3 = 20 to 31.5). Between March 3 and April 12, 2025, respondents completed an author-developed socio-demographic survey and the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-25; Connor & Davidson, 2003) via the platform visidati.lv. Results. A statistically significant difference was found in the level of psychological resilience between first- and fourth-year nursing students. According to the CD-RISC-25 scale, the average resilience level of first-year students was M = 59.86 (SD = 10.159), while for fourth-year students it was M = 63.62 (SD = 12.702). Additionally, a statistically significant correlation was found between resilience and several socio-demographic factors, including age, highest level of completed education, fulfilling the role of group leader, paid employment, marital status, caring for children, and engagement in physical activities. Conclusions. The level of psychological resilience among students of the study programme “Nursing” in Latvia appears to be lower compared to other studies. The thesis consists of 41 pages, includes 13 tables, 2 figures, 5 appendices, and references 64 sources. Keywords: psychological resilience, students, nursing.
