Kopsavilkums
The author of qualification work ir Brenda Bluma – Saimniece student of 3rd year of study programme “Physician assistant” of Liepaja branch of the faculty Health and sports sciences of Riga’s Stradins University. Title of the work: Medical personnel experiences of blood sample collection from children. The purpose of the qualification work is to ascertain the Medical personnel experiences of blood sample collection from children. Blood sampling is critical for the correct diagnosis and for the treatment of children (Hjelmgren et al., 2022). But invasive interventions in children can cause fear, anxiety and pain (Yilmaz et. al., 2019). The most common causes of fear and anxiety in children are needle use and the child's perceived lack of control, which can have long-term negative effects on their psychological well-being (Ali et al., 2016, Millers et al., 2016). But medical personnel can apply a variety of techniques and equipment that can help alleviate pain and discomfort in children, creating a positive experience (Riddick, 2023). The theoretical part of the work explores and examines children's physical and psychoemotional characteristics, challenges in blood sampling in children, and what methods are used to address these challenges. The most common challenges in blood sampling in children are the moving, hard-to-palpable veins and the emotional state of the child. The study concluded that the experience of medical personnel in performing a blood sampling procedure is similar. Medics deal with complications by similar methods, most often communication. The most important thing about working with a child is being calm, lovable and smiling. Communication with not only the patient but also the parents is no less important in this procedure.
