Kopsavilkums

Lielākā daļa literatūras ir iegūta no EBM (Evidence-Based Medicine) avotiem.
Abstract Introduction: alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with known pathogenesis and etiology, commonly categorized as sporadic or familial. It is affecting people all over the world. Radiology has long been a cornerstone in diagnosing and treating patients with AD. Lately, more research has been published looking at how different radiological biomarker corresponds with the disease and its progression, supporting the hypothesis. Linked biomarkers such as amyloid, tau, and tangles have been shown to increase the severity of the disease. Hypothesis: the integration of novel radiological methods, along with specific biomarkers, could help contribute to aiding early diagnosis and prognosis of AD and ultimately resulting in better prognosis and surveillance of the disease. Aim: to research, investigate, and understand the different radiological methods and their subsequent radiological biomarkers along with their importance when it comes to diagnosis and understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. Tasks: to conclude and give a brief understanding of the types of biomarkers seen in the different radiological imaging modalities. Material and methods: a literature was done to map and investigate what the current literature has to say about the radiological biomarkers found in patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. The research was conducted with the help of different literature search engines and sources such as; PubMed, Clinical Key, and UpToDate using the keywords: “Radiological biomarkers in AD” or “Radiological biomarkers in Alzheimer’s disease”. The vast majority of literature is drawn from EBM sources. Selected appropriate studies have been written in the English language. Results: based on the given reviewed data, the supposition is that biomarkers tie in when it comes to diagnosing and understanding Alzheimer’s disease as they have a significant role in the pathogenesis of AD. Conclusion: the knowledge and importance of biomarkers and how and when they appear, can yield patients better prognosis, outlook, and quality of life, along with decreasing caregiver burden and economic restraint for the healthcare apparatus.
