Kopsavilkums
Both occupational burnout and cardiovascular disorders are very topical in modern society. In this literature review both of these subjects are looked at both separately and how they are connected to each other. Occupational burnout and its connection with cardiovascular disorders is looked at from many viewpoints – psychiatry, occupational medicine, sociology and other fields. The literature and studies show that there is a strong correlation between burnout and cardiovascular disorders – the relative risk of occupational burnout was comparable to, and in some cases were even more significant than the so called classical risk factors (age, body mass index, smoking, increased blood pressure, dyslipidaemia) for cardiovascular disorders. In literature, there is information available about the mechanisms that connect these diseases – causing of metabolic syndrome, changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, the dysregulation of sleep, inflammatory processes, changes to the blood coagulation system and fibrinolysis, as well as changes in behaviour. To be precise, occupational burnout is associated with arterial hypertension, atrial fibrillation, coronary heart disease, also myocardial infarction and stroke. The association between burnout and cardiomyopathies has not been studied and exists as a possible direction for future research.
