Kopsavilkums
Title of the bachelor thesis: Psychological readiness of athletes to return to sport after anterior cruciate ligament injury reconstruction Author of the bachelor thesis: Ronda Ozoliņa, student of study programme “Physiotherapy”, Faculty of Rehabilitation of Riga Stradins University. Actuality: Anterior cruciate ligament rupture is a common injury among athletes and it is widely known to cause not only physical but also psychological damage that can seriously affect rehabilitation and future activities, including a return to sport. Aim of the study: Translate ACL-Return to Sport after Injury scale into latvian language and clarify the psychological readiness of athletes to return to sport after anterior cruciate ligament injury reconstruction. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional descriptive study involving 14 athletes who have undergone ACL reconstruction, electronically filling out a questionnaire that included general information about participants and adapted ACL-Return to Sport after Injury scale in latvian language. For reliability of assesment instrument, the Cronbach alpha coefficent was calculated to determine the internal consistency of the answers. The level of psychological readiness of participants was evaluated by the author`s data described in the literature. Results: Result of total Cronbach alpha of the questionnaire indicated value of α=0,94, while for each sub-category coherence was within range α=0,62 – 0,88. When assessing the psychological readiness to return to sport of the athletes (n=14), eight (57,1%) were found to have insufficient psychological readiness, three (21,4%) sufficient, while only three (21,4%) had high psychological readiness. Conclusions: The Latvian version of ACL-Return to Sport after Injury scale showed high internal consistency rates for all individual sections and for the entire scale as a whole. The athletes involved in the study have insufficient psychological readiness to return to sport, and the decision to return to sport following ACL reconstruction is associated with significantly higher psychological readiness or higher ACL-Return to Sport after Injury scale scores.
