Abstract
Title: Experience of practicing physiotherapists in reduction of kinesiophobia in patients with musculosceletal disorders. Background: Background: Kinesiophobia is a major cause of chronic musculosceletal pain, causing patients to become inactive and change their daily activity patterns, leading in parallel to depression and other functional impairments. Currently, there is not enough information available on the experience of physiotherapists with patients with kinesiophobia. Such a study would fill a research gap and provide new knowledge on this phenomenon. The lack of this knowledge limits the identification of the problems and achievements that physiotherapists face when working with patients with kinesiophobia. Objective: To find out the experience of practicing physiotherapists in reducing kinesiophobia in patients with pain caused by musculosceletal disorders. Methods: Research was carried out using a qualitative phenomenological approach. The study sample was purposively drawn from physiotherapists working with the target population, using internship places and a snowball sampling method. Six physiotherapists who work with patients with kinesiophobia on a daily basis agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview design. Interviews were conducted face-to-face and remotely by telephone. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim using a computer programme. Data were analysed using an inductive approach. Results: Data analysis resulted in the identification of six categories, which were grouped into three main themes that represent the textual meanings of the experiences of the participants: interaction with the patient, support and emotions of the physiotherapist. By synthesising imaginative variations, structural experience was obtained: physiotherapist's communication style, the impact of physiotherapist's support on patient satisfaction and compliance, and the impact of the physiotherapist's reflective and emotion-awareness abilities on the therapeutic relationship. Conclusions: Physiotherapists' work with patients with kinesiophobia is based on empathic and purposeful communication and support that promotes patient understanding, compliance, and satisfaction, fostering a purposeful therapeutic relationship in which physiotherapists' ability to identify their own emotions and distinguish them from those of the patient plays a role in facilitating a positive therapeutic outcome.
