Kopsavilkums
Background: Workplace harassment in the healthcare sector is a significant issue that impacts the workers and the work environment tremendously. The harassment severely impacts the employees, as it negatively influences their mental health and thus decrease job satisfaction among the workers. By conducting this study, we can gather a greater understanding on how the workers are affected by the harassment that may be present in the workplace, and the different contributing factors that may increase the incidence of harassment in the workplace. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to get a greater understanding on workplace harassment and the effect it has on job satisfaction in health care professionals. This research study explores the association and relationship between workplace harassment and mental well- being, workplace culture and job satisfaction among healthcare workers. Materials and Methods: Doctors, nurses and nurse assistants volunteered in this research, a total of 42 participants were involved in this study and the data was collected through a questionnaire which was analysed with SPSS version 29.0 to explore the statistical relationship between key factors. Hypothesis: Workplace harassment negatively impacts the job satisfaction among healthcare workers. Results: The results obtained revealed significant association between workplace harassment and decreased job satisfaction (P <0.001), as the values showed that the workers who frequently encounter harassment have an increased likelihood of considering leaving their workplace. The research also found a statistically significant relationship between mental well-being and the consideration to leave the workplace (P = 0.01). Those who experienced a negative impact on their mental health were more inclined to consider leaving their job. The frequency of harassment was linked to increased psychological distress, the results showed that if harassment was encountered more frequently, the mental effects were also greatly affected (P = 0.03). Furthermore, it was revealed that there is a strong association between the culture in the workplace and job satisfaction (P = 0.007). Those who reported that their workplace promotes a culture of respect and fairness experienced harassment less frequent than those who reported that there is no positive culture in their workplace. Conclusion and Proposals: These findings emphasise the need for proper management and action against harassment to provide the healthcare workers with an environment where they feel safe. By implementing strict policies and creating a positive culture we can significantly reduce the prevalence of harassment, improve mental well-being and decrease the turnover rates in the healthcare sector.
