Kopsavilkums
One of the main goals of orthodontic treatment is to improve facial and smile aesthetics, as well as improve chewing function. A tooth is considered impacted if it remains in the bone after the expected eruption period. The goal of treatment for impacted canines is to achieve proper alignment of the dental arch without adverse effects on the impacted canine, adjacent teeth, and periodontal tissues. Deeply impacted canines, their diagnosis and treatment are often multidisciplinary, with orthodontic and surgical components. Bone loss, root resorption of adjacent teeth, and gingival recession are the most common complications of this type of procedure. Early diagnosis is important, and interceptive orthodontic treatment, such as space provision, can promote spontaneous eruption or improve the condition of the impacted tooth. However, the diagnosis of impacted canines is often delayed and the patient often requires surgical intervention as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. This study provides an overview of the incidence, etiology, and surgical and orthodontic considerations in the management of impacted canines.
