Abstract
Abstract Title: Medication caused complications in oral cavity. Background: In modern world pharmacology is improving very rapidly, that means that so many medications are being discovered to help people fight different diseases and pathologies in their bodies. It also makes sense that as new medications are discovered, more complications are occuring, including in the oral cavity. Nowadays people all around the world use more madications on daily basis than ever before. This is due to various factors, one of them is general aging of population, poor activity in day to day lifestyle and others. Dentists, in their everyday practice, need to know about possible side reactions of different medications in oral cavity and join them together. Objective: To find out what side effects of different medications can be found in oral cavity. Methods: Scientific literature research was carried out in the following databases – PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Clinical Key, Science Direct, Elsevier, Springer Nature. The search was conducted in English and it includes following key words: “oral complications”, “gingival hyperplasia”, “inhaled corticosteroids”, “asthma complications”, “chemotherapy induced mucositis”, “lichen planus treatment”, “medication induced xerostomia”, “ isphosphonate induced osteonecrosis”, “osteoporosis”, “gingival enlargement”, “angiotensin converting enzyme”, “side effects of medications”, “ periodontitis” in different order and combinations. Results: In this literature review, according to criteria, was used information from 49 scientific literature article. Primary systematic reviews. There were several studies with statistically insignificant differences in results on following topics: oral mucositis, corticosteroid induces complications in oral cavity, amlodipine caused complications in oral cavity. On the topic treatment of oral lichen planus, there were found statistically significant differences between different studies. On the topics: imatinib induced hyperpigmentation in oral cavity, bisphosphonate induced osteonecrosis of jaws, captopril induced “ burning mouth syndrome only a few studies are available, more randomized controlled trials should be conducted to provide concrete evidence on these topics. Conclusions: Almost every group of medications, that are being used nowadays, is proven to have different oral side effects. Keywords: Oral pathology, complications of medications, medications side effects Consists of: 22 pages, 6 annexes, 3 photos, 2 tables.
