Kopsavilkums
Pētījuma izlase sastāvēja no 109 respondentiem (75,2% sievietes, 24,8% vīriešu), vecumā no 18 līdz 63 (M = 34,91, SD = 14,62).
Interest in the impostor phenomenon has increased in recent years, both on social media and in scientific literature (Feenstra et al., 2020). The impostor phenomenon itself is not considered a clinical condition, however it is closely associated with anxiety (Denese, 2022; Andersson et al., 20230, burnout (Villwock et al., 2016), depression (Yash et al., 2024) and professional developments (Feenstra et al., 2020). Noticeable gaps exist in research concerning the prevalence of the phenomenon, particularly in relation to gender differences and differences across levels of education (Bravata et al., 2020; Kristoffersson et al., 2024). The aim of this bachelor’s thesis was to adapt the Impostor Phenomenon suvery into Latvian. The research questions were: What are the psychometric properties of the survey items?; What are the internal consistency indicators of the survey?; What is the test – retest reliability of the survey?; What is the factor structure of the survey?; Are there gender differences in the test results?; Are there differences in the test results between different levels of education? This thesis consists of an introduction, a theoretical literature review on the impostor phenomenon, which examines available literature related to the phenomenon, its gender differences, and it prevalence in academic environments. A chapter is also dedicated to the test adaptation and guidelines. This is followed by a description of the research methods, results, discussion, conclusions, and suggestions and recommendations. The research sample consisted of 109 participants (75,2% women, 24,8% men), aged 18 – 63 (M = 34,91, SD = 14,62). The Impostorism Scale (Leary et al., 2000) was adapted and respondents were recruited by distributing the survey via social media (Whatsapp and Instagram). In conclusion, it is determined that the impostor phenomenon test was successfully adapted. Cronbach’s alpha indicated good internal consistency, psychometric indicators mostly showed high and strong values. An exception was the item difficulty index for two items, however these results may be explained as statistical errors. The instrument also showed strong reliability, and the one – factor structure of the instrument was confirmed. No gender differences were found, however statistically significant differences were identified between levels of education.
