Abstract
KOPSAVILKUMS
Ievads.
ABSTRACT Background. Contact sports are watched and played by millions of people and build a huge occupational field. But besides orthopaedic injuries, most people don’t know that contact sports also can give rise to the neurodegenerative disease Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Aim. The aim of this research paper was to review and summarize information about CTE, but also to make the disease more comprehensive and give a closer insight on how it arises, how many people are affected and how it could be prevented. Method. Information was collected out of 23 sources with the subject of chronic traumatic encephalopathy which have been analysed, reviewed and compared. The topic was divided into prevalence, diagnosing, symptoms, predictive factors, pathology, prevention, risk factors and from there analysed independently under aspect of available sources Conclusion. The pathohistological diagnosis of CTE can be secured only post mortem what makes a precise evaluation of prevalence in the population rather difficult/impossible. In order to get further insight into prevalence, new ways for in vivo diagnosis have to be established which right now is already in progress, but not fully developed yet. Also risk factors have to be further studied in order to find new ways to prevent the disease.
