Kopsavilkums

Boskalīda detekcija bija saistīta ar purva platības pieaugumu (OR = 1,710).
This master's thesis explores the impact of proximity and area of various biotopes near residential areas on the presence and number of pesticides in urine samples in the Latvian population, using data from the HBM4EU human biomonitoring study. The aim of the research was to determine whether geospatial factors – such as biotope type, distance, and area near the place of residence – are associated with pesticide detection in human urine. The study used data from 101 families, each consisting of one adult and one child. Everyone provided two urine samples collected in different seasons – winter and summer. Biotope data were processed using QGIS software, and distance and area within a 1000-meter radius were used as independent variables. Statistical analysis was conducted using generalized linear mixed models with binomial or negative binomial distribution, including fixed and random effects to account for the hierarchical structure of the data. In total, 23 out of 30 pesticides were detected, but only 8 were found in more than 10% of the samples. No significant association was found between the proximity or area of agricultural land and the total number of pesticides detected. However, statistically significant associations were observed between specific pesticides and certain biotopes: residential proximity to bogs was associated with a decreased likelihood of acetamiprid detection (OR = 0.704), while chlorpropham detection was positively associated with larger river and lake areas (OR = 1.501), proximity to green biomass (OR = 1.429), and vegetable field area (OR = 1.428) near the residence. Boscalid detection was associated with increasing bog area (OR = 1.710). Children had a 17% higher number of detected pesticides compared to adults (IRR = 1.165), while no seasonal differences were observed. It was concluded that proximity to specific biotopes may be a relevant factor in the detection of certain pesticides, whereas general agricultural exposure cannot be reliably assessed using only proximity or area indicators. This study offers a practical contribution to the interpretation of biomonitoring data, emphasizing the need for future research to include additional exposure-related factors such as diet, occupation, and lifestyle, and to expand the spatial radius of geospatial analysis beyond 1000 meters.
