Kopsavilkums
The bachelor's thesis examines key oral health indicators and their association with chronic diseases across different age, gender, and income level groups. The analysis focuses on the frequency of tooth brushing, dental visits, and permanent tooth loss in relation to the presence of chronic illnesses, using data from the 2022 Health Behaviour Survey of Latvian Residents conducted by the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. The dataset includes responses from 1864 individuals aged 45 to 74. The aim of the study is to analyze how oral health indicators differ between individuals with and without chronic diseases. To achieve this aim, three research objectives are established: (1) identify differences in tooth brushing habits, (2) the frequency of dental visits, and (3) the number of missing teeth, considering chronic disease status, age, gender, and income level. Quantitative research methods are applied using IBM SPSS 29 software. Descriptive statistical methods such as frequency and cross-tabulation tables are used, along with the chi-square test to identify statistically significant differences between groups. A 95% confidence interval is calculated for the results. Oral health indicators are based on three survey questions: the number of dental visits in the past year, the number of missing permanent teeth, and the frequency of tooth brushing. Independent variables include sociodemographic factors such as gender (male/female), age groups (45–54, 55–64, 65–74 years), and income level (low, medium, high). The results show that individuals with chronic diseases experience significantly greater tooth loss – 39,5% report missing more than 10 teeth, compared to 25,6% among those without chronic conditions. This disparity is even more pronounced in the low-income group, where 50,9% of respondents with chronic diseases report missing over 10 teeth, compared to 33,8% without chronic diseases. Higher income groups demonstrate better oral hygiene practices and more regular dental visits. The thesis is structured over 51 pages and includes 6 tables, 3 figures, and 4 appendices. A total of 52 literature sources were used.
