Kopsavilkums
This literature review explores the potential of non-invasive urinary and fecal biomarkers for early diagnosis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a life-threatening gastrointestinal disease in neonates, especially preterm and very low birth weight infants. The study focuses on analyzing specific biomarkers such as I-FABP, claudin-3, calprotectin, lipocalin-2, and PGE-MUM, evaluating their sensitivity, specificity, and clinical relevance. It compares urinary and fecal biomarkers in terms of pathophysiological insight, diagnostic value, and practical application in neonatal care. Emphasis is placed on multi-marker panels and integration of proteomic and metabolomic data, highlighting the potential for a personalized diagnostic approach to NEC.
