Kopsavilkums
1) Kā Latvijas Jaunatnes padomes (LJP) dalībnieki dažādās lomās uztver un īsteno dzimumu līdztiesības principus no 2015. līdz 2024. gadam;
The master’s thesis “Gender equality and communication campaigns of the Latvian Youth Council from 2015 to 2024” explores how gender equality principles are perceived, implemented, and communicated by Latvian Youth cauncl (LJP). The study positions LJP as a key actor in youth representation and policy-making in Latvia, while critially assesng its capacity to foster gender equality both within the organization and in broader societal discourse. The aim is to analyse the implementation of gender equality in the LJP activities and communication campaigns between 2015 and 2024, observing whether theoretical settings are in line with LJP operational skills. The theoretical framework is based on gender equality theory and feminist communication theory, with a focus on liberal, intersectional poststructural/postmodern, and performative feminist perspectives. These approaches provide tools for analyzing not only formal policies and institutional actions but also the discursive and symbolic dimensions through which understandings of gender equality are constructed and conveyed. Feminist communication theory is specifically used to examine how gender-related ideas are represented and adressed across youth target audience. The empirical part employs a qualitative methodology, including semi-structured interviews with six LJP board members and an in-depth analysis of 21 communication campaigns. Additional materials such as policy documents, campaign visuals and messaging were also reviewed to assess how gender equality themes are expressed. The research focuses on two core questions: 1) As participants of the Latvian Youth Council (LJP), the principles of gender equality from 2015 to 2024 are perceived and implemented in different roles? 2) How these principles are reflected and communicated in LJP communication campaigns to promote gender equality awareness among young people? Findings reveal taht while LJP has taken meaningful steps toward promoting gender equality, structural and symbolic challenges persist. The organization demonstrates a commitment to inclusive practices, yet there is a need for more strategic integration of gender equality in both its operations and communication efforts. The thesis offers recommendations grounded in feminist theory for enhancing gender equality in the Latvian youth sector and within LJP’s organizational practice.
