Chronic pain is a widespread and multifactorial health problem which contributes to disability, diminished quality of life and socioeconomic strain. It’s not only a clinical issue but a public health challenge. Management of chronic pain is challenging due to its subjective nature which can delay proper treatment. Artificial intelligence (AI) has shown promise in healthcare and in chronic pain field. AI systems are able to use different large datasets that could help uncover hidden patterns, help in diagnostic precision by making predictions and support individualised treatment plans. This literature review evaluates AI in chronic pain treatment. The literature review outlines methodological foundations of AI and some of its techniques applied in chronic pain management, describes clinical applications of AI and discusses existing limitations, ethical challenges and future directions of AI in chronic pain management. This literature review aims to give comprehensive overview on how AI may augment chronic pain care with its advancements and how it can transform from experimental models towards clinically impactful patient centered strategies.
