Kopsavilkums
Burnout syndrome among psychiatrists is a a pressing concern due to high work intensity and emotional burden, which has been further exacerbated by the increased demand for mental health care services following the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim: to provide a review of the scientific literature on burnout among psychiatrists, analyzing associated factors, prevalence, impact on mental health, and possible interventions to reduce the risk and prevalence of burnout syndrome. Hypothesis: burnout syndrome among psychiatrists is highly prevalent, negatively affects mental health, and can be reduced through targeted interventions. The literature review was structured using a thematic approach, analyzing publications retrieved from international scientific databases. The analyzed studies indicate that burnout syndrome among psychiatrists is determined by a combination of factors, particularly high workload, unfavorable work organization, and insufficient support. Burnout syndrome among psychiatrists is highly prevalent, with prevalence rates ranging from 27.5% to 78%. The comparison of prevalence rates and risk factors across the analyzed studies is limited by methodological differences. Burnout syndrome among psychiatrists is frequently associated with symptoms of depression and anxiety; however, a direct causal relationship between them cannot be established. Multi-level interventions play a significant role in reducing burnout and may also be effective for psychiatrists. The study highlights the need for further research on burnout syndrome among psychiatrists in Latvia.
