Adolescents' Self-image in Relation to Self-esteem and Unfavorable Experiences in Childhood

Abstract

Diplomdarba mērķis: 1. Izvērtēt nelabvēlīgo apstākļu ietekmi bērnībā uz paštēla veidošanos pusaudžu gados. Izpētīt, vai ir saikne starp bērnībā piedzīvoto traumatisko pieredzi un paštēlu.

2. Izvērtēt pašvērtējuma ietekmi uz paštēlu pusaudžu gados.

Metodoloģija: Šis pētnieciskais darbs ir literatūras apskats par rakstiem, kas atrodami galvenokārt EBSCO un ClinicalKey datubāzē, kā arī zinātniskos žurnālos un grāmatās ar visām bibliogrāfijā uzskaitītām atsaucēm.

Secinājums: Pašvērtējumam ir būtiska un tieša ietkeme uz paštēlu. Zems pašvērtējums noved arī pie zemāka paštēla veidošanās. Emocionālai vardarbībai, seksuālai vardarbībai un pamešanai novārtā, ir tieša ietekme uz paštēla veidošanos, savukārt, attiecībā uz fizisku vardarbību nav pietiekami daudz datu, lai pamatotu fiziskās vardarbības tiešo ietekmi uz paštēlu. Negatīvs paštēls var būt stimulējošs faktors ēšanas draucējumu un depresijas attīstībā.Aim of the research 1. To evaluate the effect of unfavorable experiences in childhood on self-image in adolescence. Study if there is any relationship between exposure to traumatic experiences during childhood on self-image.

2. To evaluate the effect of self-esteem on self-image in adolescence.

Methodology: This paper is a literature review of the articles found primarily on EBSCO database and ClinicalKey, as well as specific journals and books, with all the recourses listed in bibliography.

Conclusion: Self-esteem has a significant direct impact on self-image. Lower self-esteem leads to the development of more negative self-image. Emotional abuse, sexual abuse and neglect have a direct impact on self-image, while there is no enough data to support the direct effect of physical abuse on self-image. Negative self-image can be a triggering factor in the development of eating disorders and depression.
