Abstract
Aptaujas anketa sastāvēja no 24 jautājumiem četrās sadaļās – demogrāfiskie jautājumi, benzodiazepīnu līdzekļu lietošanas saraksts, lietošanas tendences jautājumi, pētījuma dalībnieku informetība par zaļu drošību.
Benzodiazepīnu, to analogo grupas līdzekļu lietošanas paradumus neietekmē izglītības līmenis, nodarbošanās veids, dzīvesvieta, taču ietekmē dzimums, vīriešiem tos ļaunprātīgi lietojot biežāk nekā sievietēm (80,8% pret 52,9%).
The research study “Benzodiazepine medication using tendencies among young adults in Latvia” aim is to find out the tendencies in the use of benzodiazepines among young Latvians between ages of 18 and 30, focusing on analysis of the misuse of these medications. Benzodiazepines are CNS sedatives that act on GABA-A receptors, allowing increased chloride ions to enter neurons, which results in neuronal hyperpolarization and inhibition of neuronal signaling. Benzodiazepines have been available to patience since 1960s, although this class of drugs is known to be addictive and is a strictly controlled drugs, the prescription and use of benzodiazepines continues to increase worldwide, particularly during COVID-19 pandemic. If earlier these medications were mostly used by seniors, nowadays more younger adults are trying benzodiazepines and using them more arbitrarily, for fun, increasing abuse, endangering themselves and others. The conducted research used a anonymous survey method to find out the real tendencies in drug use among young adults. The questionnaire consisted of 24 questions in four sections – demographic questions, list of benzodiazepines medication used by person, questions about using tendencies, questions about participants awareness of benzodiazepine drug safety. Descriptive and comparative statistical methods were used for data analysis. A total of 144 respondents took part in this study, two-thirds of whom have tried benzodiazepines once in the lifetime, of which 68% have used them in the last year. Younf adults have most often tried medicines containing alprazolam (51,3%) of all cases. 39 out of 60 adults have abused benzodiazepine medication in last year, mostly with the desire to enhance the effect of the medication or for entertainment purposes. The habits of using benzodiazepines and their analogues are not affected by the level of education, type of occupation, place of residence, but are affected by gender, men abuse drugs more often than women (80,8% vs 52,9%).
