Abstract
Title of the Research Paper: "The influencing factors, possibilities and methods to maintain a working capacity in the professional work of a massage therapist". Author: Inga Lapina. Consultant of the Research Paper: Mg.sc.edu. Mgr. Dina Berloviene. Massage therapists face increased physical and emotional stress in their practice (La Plante, 2013). Especially at the beginning of their career, a significant number of massage therapists stop practicing when faced with health problems and professional burnout (Lyons, 2016). Therefore, the aim of the qualification work was to investigate the determinants, opportunities and methods of maintaining work capacity among massage therapists in practice. The theoretical part was developed, which consists of 2 chapters: Determinants of work capacity in the professional work of a massage therapist; Occupational health risks in the work of a massage therapist and possibilities of their prevention. Chapter 2 has 2 subsections: physical health risks; mental health risks. The study was carried out in 3 stages. In the first stage, semi-structured interviews were conducted with practicing massage therapists. In the second phase, the data were systematised. In the third phase, the data were analysed and interpreted. A semi-structured interview plan, developed by the author, containing both closed and open-ended questions, was used as the research instrument. 8 actively practicing massage therapists with at least 7 years of experience in the massage profession were interviewed. The study concluded that massage therapist performance is a multidimensional construct, where all components are interrelated and interdependent. Health, job satisfaction, working conditions and professional development are equally important. The volume of the work is 37 pages and it has 13 annexes. There are 12 figures, 17 sources of information, 13 of which are in English and 4 in Latvian.
