Kopsavilkums
Pētījums norisinājās no 2025. gada 6. janvāra līdz 11. aprīlim.
Title: Comparison of aerobic capacity in adolescents participating in low- and high-intensity sports activities. Objective: To examine the aerobic capacity of adolescents engaged in low- and high-intensity sports activities, considering also their daily physical activity outside of structured training. Methods: This study employed a quantitative, cross-sectional comparative research design. Participants were folk dancers and shooting athletes aged 10 to 14 years with at least one year of experience in their respective sports. The study was conducted in two parts at Tukums Sports School and Tume Primary School between January 6 and April 11, 2025. The Harvard Step Test, a leisure-time physical activity questionnaire, and anthropometric measurements were used. Results: Dancers demonstrated a statistically significantly higher aerobic capacity index compared to shooters. A positive correlation was found between the physical activity index and the aerobic capacity index. BMI was not associated with aerobic capacity, possibly due to the small number of participants with a high BMI. Neither gender nor age showed a significant relationship with aerobic capacity. The hypothesis was confirmed: high-intensity physical activity and a high overall volume of activity significantly contribute to the development of aerobic capacity. Conclusions: Adolescents engaged in high-intensity sports exhibit higher aerobic capacity than those participating in low-intensity sports. Leisure-time physical activity plays an important role in the development of aerobic fitness.
