This PhD dissertation is dedicated to an in-depth analysis of the phenomenon of raiderism in Latvia, evaluating its impact on the country’s economic stability and legal environment. At the heart of this study lies raiderism as a collection of illegal and unethical activities aimed at the illicit takeover of property and business assets. Such actions threaten both the country’s internal economic security and investment environment, highlighting the necessity for solutions to address this issue. The objective of the dissertation is to propose specific recommendations for the enhancement of the legal framework to effectively combat raiderism and create a safer business environment. The study analyzes existing civil laws and their effectiveness, as well as identifies shortcomings that hinder the efficient regulation of raiderism. The research emphasizes the need for a clearer definition of raiderism and the development of special legal regulations. The dissertation employs various research methods, including analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, and comparative method. The importance of historical and teleological interpretation, as well as systematic analysis of legal norms, is highlighted to uncover the legal framework and the impact of raiderism. Additionally, the research examines corporate governance schemes that enable raiders to implement their activities, often involving state and municipal bodies. The proposed solutions within the study include offering a new definition of raiderism and its integration into regulatory acts to improve the identification and combating of raiderism. The significance of the research is expressed in enhancing public awareness about this issue, thereby strengthening the legal framework and promoting a safer and more stable business environment in Latvia. The results and conclusions of the doctoral dissertation provide a theoretical and practical basis for further research, focusing on legal protection against raiderism and reducing its negative impact on business activities and overall economic stability in the country. This study will serve as a foundation for broader discussions on strategies for preventing raiderism, aiding in the creation of a stronger legal and economic climate in Latvia.en
