Qualification thesis topic: Public understanding of the impact of physical activity on psycho-emotional health Relevance of the topic: Statistical data indicates that there is a high burden on mental health care in Latvia. More than half of the adult population in Latvia reports experiencing tension, stress, and dejection on a daily basis (Grīnberga et al., 2019). An increasing number of studies confirm the beneficial impact of physical activity on psycho-emotional health. As a future specialist in health sports, it is important for me to understand the public's perception of the effects of physical activity on psycho-emotional health and how this understanding differs by gender, age, and education level. Additionally, it is important to explore whether psychosocial health is a motivating factor for engaging in physical activity. Considering that most of the Latvian population does not engage in sufficient physical activity on a daily basis, I am interested in informing more people about physical activities as a preventive measure not only for physical but also mental health problems Aim of the study: To determine the public's understanding of the impact of physical activity on psycho-emotional health Research Hypothesis: The public's understanding of the impact of physical activity on psycho-emotional health is insufficient and varies by gender, age, and education level Research methods: A total of 832 respondents participated in the study, of which 83% were women and 17% were men. The participants completed an anonymous survey questionnaire, which included 13 questions Results: The main factors motivating respondents to engage in physical activity are external appearance, improvement of physical performance and psycho-emotional health. Women more frequently use physical activity as a means to improve their psychosocial health compared to men. Women generally have a slightly better understanding of the impact of physical activity on psycho-emotional health. The proposed hypothesis was partially confirmed. The public's understanding of the impact of physical activity on psychosocial health is insufficient and varies by gender, but no significant differences were found between education levels and age groups Keywords: physical activity, excercise, psycho-emotional health, mental health
