Kopsavilkums

Apmierinātība ar attiecībām ir būtisks labsajūtas rādītājs, kuru var ietekmēt gan attiecību kvalitāte, gan to ģeogrāfiskais tuvums. Mūsdienu sabiedrībā aizvien biežāk sastopamas attālinātas attiecības, kuru uzturēšana var būtiski atšķirties no ģeogrāfiski tuvām attiecībām.
Relationship satisfaction is an important indicator of well-being, which can be influenced by both the quality of the relationship and its geographical proximity. In modern society, long-distance relationships are increasingly common, and maintaining them can differ significantly from geographically close relationships. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between satisfaction with romantic relationships and love styles in geographically close and long-distance relationships. The study was based on John Lee’s theory of love styles ("Colors of Love") and previous research findings suggesting that certain love styles (e.g., Eros and Agape) may be positively associated with relationship quality. It was hypothesized that there would be a statistically significant association between the dominant love style and relationship satisfaction in both types of relationships. A total of 131 participants took part in the study (mean age M = 33.66; SD = 12.88), of whom 74% were women. A non-probability sampling method was used. Participants were divided into two groups based on the type of relationship — geographically close or long-distance. Two self-report questionnaires were used: the Love Attitudes Scale (LAS) to assess love styles, and the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS) to measure relationship satisfaction. Spearman's rank-order correlation was used for data analysis. The results showed no statistically significant association between love styles and relationship satisfaction in either relationship group. However, it was found that participants in long-distance relationships reported significantly lower satisfaction compared to those in geographically close relationships (rₛ = –0.30*, p < 0.001). It can be concluded that relationship satisfaction is more strongly influenced by physical and emotional closeness between partners than by individual love styles.
