Effects of Smartphone Addiction on the Mental Health – A Literature Review

Abstract

This literature review discusses the widespread issue of smartphone addiction and its implications on various mental health aspects. The review analyzes the association of smartphone addiction with depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance and touches on the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on the addiction itself. The main goal of this review was to establish a clear understanding on if and how smartphone addiction plays a role for these mental health aspects as well as to explain the smartphone addiction phenomenon and its upbringing.
