Abstract This thesis delves into the intricate relationship between pollen exposure and respiratory health, with a specific focus on urban populations. It aims to elucidate the mechanisms through which pollen allergens contribute to respiratory diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), among urban citizens. Through an extensive review of existing literature, this study examines how pollen allergens trigger immune responses, leading to the development and exacerbation of asthma and COPD. Special emphasis is placed on understanding the synergistic effects of environmental factors prevalent in urban settings, such as air pollution and allergen exposure, on the pathogenesis of these respiratory conditions. Methodological approaches for assessing pollen exposure and quantifying its impact on respiratory health outcomes are critically evaluated, considering the challenges inherent in urban environments.
