Ievads. Lokāli prostaglandīnu analogi (PGA) bieži vien ir pirmās izvēles medikamenti, kurus izmanto glaukomas ārstēšanā, tomēr tie ir saistīti ar vairākām acu blakusparādībām, piemēram, skropstu pagarinājumu.
Pētnieciskā darba mērķis bija izmērīt skropstu garumus un salīdzināt tos starp abām acīm glaukomas pacientiem, kuri lieto PGA tikai vienā no acīm.
Metodoloģija. Pētījumā tika iekļauti pacienti, kuri ieradās uz ikgadējo kontroles vizīti pie oftalmologa, un tās laikā tika izrautas 3 skropstas no katras acs augšējā plakstiņa un izmērīti to garumi ar lineālu. Viena daļa pacientu pilināja bimatoprosta (PGA) un beta adrenoblokatora timolola kombinētos acu pilienus, savukārt otra - latanoprostu (PGA) saturošus acu pilienus.
Secinājumi. Pacienti, kuri lietoja prostaglandīnu analogus vienā no acīm, skropstu garums bija garāks, salīdzinot ar otru aci, kurā acu pilieni netika lietoti. Salīdzinot bimatoprostu(PGA)/timololu un latanoprostu (PGA), netika novērotas būtiskas skropstu garuma izmaiņas.
Objectives. Topical prostaglandin analogs (PGA) often are the first-line therapy used in management of glaucoma, but they are associated with several ocular side effects, for example, elongation of the eyelashes. The aim of this research was to measure the length of eyelashes and compare it between both eyes in glaucoma patients who apply PGA in only one of the eyes. Materials and methods. The study included patients who all were on annual visits to an ophthalmologist, and during the appointment, three lashes were removed from the upper eyelid of both eyes and measured with a ruler. One part of the patients used combined medication of bimatoprost (PGA) and beta adrenoblocker timolol, the other - latanoprost (PGA) eye drops. Conclusions. The patients who used prostaglandin analogs in one of their eyes the eyelash length was longer compared to the other eye where the drops were not used. No significant changes in eyelash length were observed in the comparison of bimatoprost/timolol and latanoprost.
