Kopsavilkums

Drug packaging design, as well as drug naming are critical considerations for safe drug management in clinical practice and similarities may result in medication errors – the so-called drug LASA (look-alike or sound-alike) errors. The impact of a LASA error on a patient can vary, depending on the medicinal product administered, the dose or route of administration, and the health condition of the patient. The study evaluated the possible LASA error risk minimization measures, the impact of LASA errors on the patient's health and the importance of reporting such cases. The conducted study revealed that more than 70% of the surveyed pharmacists had encountered LASA errors in their practice, but none of these cases were reported to the marketing authorisation holder or to the State Agency of Medicines, which would allow to evaluate the general benefit-risk ratio of the drug for the pharmacovigilance purposes. The results of the study can be considered as a framework for a larger retrospective study that will collect data on several LASA drug pairs and provide insight into real-world LASA error prevalence data.
