Kopsavilkums
Single-retainer resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses (RBFDPs) represent a minimally invasive solution for the replacement of missing teeth. Unlike the traditional bridges, which require extensive tooth preparation, RBFDPs rely on adhesive bonding to fix the prosthesis to a single adjacent tooth, preserving the integrity and coronal structure of the neighboring teeth. This approach is particularly beneficial for patients with a missing tooth in the anterior region, where aesthetic outcomes are crucial.
The advantages of single-retainer RBFDPs include reduced treatment time, minimal tooth structure removal, and a high success rate when properly indicated. Indications are single tooth replacements, minimal tooth preparation required and when there is periodontal support. However, the long-term performance and durability of single-retainer RBFDPs remain a subject of clinical interest and debate. Some of the limitations for the use of RBFDPs are a high technique sensitivity and a limited longevity compared to conventional bridges, with debonding being the most common complication.
This thesis investigated and determined the long-term outcomes of single-retainer resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses, focusing on factors such as retention and fracture resistance over extended periods. The mean success and survival rates disregarding the location of the pontics were calculated to be 92.0% and 96.0% respectively.
