Kopsavilkums

Dental enamel cracks are irreversible breaks in the structure of tooth enamel (Heravi et al., 2015), which are not characterized by the loss of tooth tissue (Hilton et al., 2021). Cracks in tooth enamel are common and normal, they are not considered a disease (Bhanderi, 2021), patients usually do not have symptoms (Oh et al., 2023), however, the presence of cracks in tooth enamel can double and even triple the likelihood of tooth fracture (Behzad & Gangadhara, 2023). The presence of extensive cracks in tooth enamel tissue should be considered during dental procedures, especially if multiple teeth are affected. The improvement of the aesthetics, prevention, treatment and iatrogenic causes of tooth enamel cracks in dentistry are still unclear, as a specific system of actions has not been established (Dumbryte et al., 2023). The aim of this work was to analyse the knowledge of dental specialists about dental enamel cracks using a questionnaire method. 73 dental specialists were surveyed. Dental specialists mention the main causes of dental enamel cracks as chewing on hard objects, bruxism, minor injuries, excessive and prolonged occlusal load, frequent temperature changes in the mouth. Dental specialists believe that iatrogenic factors also play a role in the development of enamel cracks. Dental specialists see the importance of dental enamel cracks in clinical practice, therefore most of them are engaged in the diagnosis of dental cracks and evaluate various alternatives and preventive measures to limit the development of cracks. The author concludes that dental specialists know about tooth enamel cracks as a problem, but the majority of dental specialists lack information about the diagnostic methods and etiology of tooth enamel cracks.
