The study is conducted to find out if there are statistically significant differences between disorders and the frequency of their symptoms in nurses. Shift work and the health care system itself can affect nurses' eating habits, and these factors can contribute to the development of gastrointestinal disorders. A questionnaire consisting of 26 questions was used to obtain the data, including general information about the respondents, the symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders, dietary intake and harmful factors that may affect the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. Analysis of the results was performed using the IBM SPSS program using Pearson's Chi-square and Fisher's tests. Symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders were more common in shift workers. However, statistically significant differences were found only for lack of appetite (p = 0.00) and nausea (p = 0.02), which was more often noted by shift nurses. Some of the causes of gastrointestinal disorders in this study group could be an unbalanced diet (p = 0.00), insufficient fluid intake and insufficient meals per working day. In the age group of 20 to 34 years, symptoms of and the use of other medications are statistically significantly more common. This phenomenon is likely to be associated with more overtime at work, study or raising young children in the family, leading to additional stress and faster depletion of resources. The work consists of 33 pages, 9 tables, 1 picture, 5 appendices and 40 references. |
