Konteksts: palielinoties cilvēku skaitam, kuri izvēlas veģetāru un vegānu uzturu, sekojoši pieaug arī bērnu skaits, kuru uzturs pārsvarā balstīts uz augu valsts produktiem. Augu izcelsmes uzturs ne tikai sniedz priekšrocības uzturvērtības ziņā, bet var būt arī galvenais faktors veselīgu ēšanas paradumu veicināšanā visa mūža garumā. Tomēr, izslēdzot dzīvnieku izcelsmes produktus no uztura, var pieaugt atsevišķu uzturvielu deficīta risks.
Background: the increase in people choosing vegetarian and vegan diets consequently results in a growing number of children that are consuming a more plant-based diet. The plant-based diets can not only provide nutritional advantages but also be a key factor in fostering the development of a lifelong healthy eating patterns. However, excluding animal products from the diet can increase the risk of certain nutritional deficiencies. To minimize this risk of nutritional deficiencies, yet another responsibility falls in the hands of health care personnel. To manage this responsibility there is a need for continued research and the availability of sources for educational needs. Aim: to revise nutrients of concern in vegan & vegetarian children, their status and possible consequences. Hypothesis: there can be several health problems for children consuming a vegetarian/vegan diet if not planned properly. Method: this research work is a literature review with information sustained from scientific research forums and archives, such as PubMed and Science Direct. Conclusion: a well-planned and balanced vegan/vegetarian diet seems to be able to provide all necessary nutrients for the growing child. Further, it also seems to provide many health benefits. Nevertheless, an unbalanced and unwell planned vegan/vegetarian diet for children can result in serious health problems.en-UK
