Pētījums sastāv no 3 daļām.
With the increasing number of users in social media it is important to understand its value and impact. Many people find it easier to report side effects or even share any information about their medication online. Several studies show the advantages and challenges of using social media for pharmacovigilance purposes. The study consists of 3 parts. The first part introduces JSC „Grindeks” and JSC „Kalceks”, and summarizes and analyses international scientific literature on pharmacovigilance and adverse events monitoring in social media. Literature analysis shows many discussions on monitoring social media for adverse events and future of social media in pharmacovigilance. The second part describes methods used in the study and provides overview of collected adverse events reports from social media. An analysis of reports was performed to evaluate how many of the received reports were considered valued as per chosen criteria. It describes the process of collecting adverse events and its validation. The third part of the research consists of collecting the obtained data and analysing the results. The results of the study show that reports received from social media often lack criteria to be reported further. Nevertheless, many reports are useful and provide important information on adverse events. Even though monitoring social media for potential collection of adverse events is one of the GVP requirements, much more research needs to be conducted to evaluate the validity of reports received and more efficient way of collecting reports. Conclusions and practical recommendations have been advised.
