Abstract
SUMMARY Title of the bachelor’s thesis: The effectiveness of Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT) method for children with motor speech disorders: a Systematic review Statement of the Problem: There are different studies about the use of PROMPT method in cases of motor speech disorders, but there does not exist a summary of studies to clarify if the PROMT method influences the intelligibility of the speech and the oromotor control in case of childhood apraxia of speech and dysarthia. The aim of this study: The systematical compilation and analysis of available literature – studies about the use of Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT) method, and to conclude about the effect of it on the speech oromotor control and on the possible increase of speech intelligibility in the case of speech disorders. Results of this study: After the verification of the selected results, 4 articles were included in the making of systematic review. By using the PEDro scale, it was determined, that 3 of the articles were of average quality studies and 1 – of high-quality study. In all studies PROMT method was used in motor speech disorder therapy for children. An improvement in the oromotor control was confirmed in all studies. Speech intelligibility was confirmed to improve in 3 studies. Conclusions: After the systematic review and the 4 studies, it is concluded that PROMPT method does improve oromotor control and the speech intelligibility. There are some studies that prove the capability of the method to make improvements in oromotor control and speech intelligibility, but the data is not plausible.
