Abstract
Implants as a dosage form are a perspective direction in medicine to improve the pharmacotherapeutic profile to patients in need of a long-term treatment, ensuring a certain constant concentration of the active substance in the body. This dosage form offers improved patient compliance, bioavailability of the drug and can reduce the side effects, that occur, using other dosage forms. These aspects make implants a potentially beneficial form from a healtcare view.[19] There is a summarized information about implant structure, physico-chemical properties, application techniques and other important in the study; as well as information about implant use in oncology, ophthalmology, hormonal contraception and in other medical fields. The positive implants properties and the range of application for therapeutic purposes indicate the perspective not only in the chronic diseases treatment, but also in specific cases.
