Abstract
The main objective of bachelor thesis “Religious organizations and politics in the contemporary Latvia: Analysis of the Istanbul Convention” is to find out religious organisation argumentation, involvement, and potential influence on Latvian political actors in the case of ratification of Istanbul convention in Latvia. To reach research objective, four research tasks, have been constructed: analyse academic literature about religious organization specifics and their influence in society and politics, find out leading opinions in media with qualitative content analysis about Istanbul convention and how media reflects religious organizations stance, analyse the open letter from religious leaders to compare the arguments reflected there and in the media, and analyse how religious organization specifics and the ways they spread their values impact the ratification of Istanbul convention. The bachelor thesis is created in three parts, where in the first par the author has review the classical sociologist works about religious organizations, the second part consists of review of more recent research on religious organization impact on other organizations and society and in the third part the results of the bachelor analysis is reviewed. In the bachelor it is concluded that the religious organizations in Latvia impact the decision to ratify the Istanbul convention, however, it is not done in straight forward way, but indirectly, through the interaction between religious and secular organisations, and the actor membership to both of these groups.
