Abstract
Background: Lung cancer poses a significant burden on global health. Various risk factors have been identified for the development of lung cancer. Particular attention should be paid to populations exposed to occupational risk factors. Objective: To summarize the current research status on exposure to occupational risk factors, focusing on Asbestos, Radon, and Arsenic. Methods: A literature review on occupational risk factors on the development of lung cancer with a focus on Asbestos, Radon, and Arsenic. Meta-analyses, cohort studies, case-control studies, and clinical trials from around the world were included. Conclusions: Tobacco smoking has been established as the leading risk factor for the development of lung cancer. However, smoking can be considered a voluntary choice, but occupational exposure to Asbestos, Radon, and Arsenic is not. Due to these substances’ ubiquitous nature and widespread historical usage, these substances pose significant risks to workers and their families even in contemporary occupational settings. Protective measures should include a combined approach of smoking cessation programs and the implementation of precise protective measures at the identified workplace.
