Abstract

Physiotherapists are specialists whose work includes not only physical efforts, but also mental work. They "face" patient's physical and mental pain and participate in the rehabilitation process to restore patient's functional independence. The specifics of work of physiotherapists is related to the emotional exhaustion which was observed even before the Covid-19 pandemic and possibly exacerbated during the pandemic. The study aims to find out the signs of occupational burnout in physiotherapists practicing during the Covid-19 pandemic. To achieve the aim of the study, a quantitative, non-experimental study was conducted using the Maslach burnout survey and general questions. The participants involved in the study are practicing physiotherapists in health care institutions of IV and V level. A total of 54 respondents were surveyed. Most of the surveyed physiotherapists worked in neurology (24.07%), pediatrics (9.26%), surgery (5.56%), etc. The greatest emotional exhaustion is observed in the age group from 36 to 40 years, with 5-10 years of work experience, this age group is also characterized by low work capacity and a sense of personal achievement. The most pronounced symptoms of depersonalization are among respondents with 5-10 years of work experience, from 31-35 years. The majority of respondents (57.41%) associated their emotional state with the Covid-19 pandemic and 72.22% of respondents were in a contact with Covid-19 confirmed patients. The results show that practicing physiotherapists suffer harder from professional burnout during the Covid-19 pandemic The work contains 6 tables, 8 figures, 25 literature sources. The volume of the work without appendices is 34 pages and 6 pages of appendices. Keywords: burnout, pandemic, Covid-19, Maslach survey, physiotherapy.
