Abstract
Ievads: 2017. Gadā Latvija ierindojās pirmajā vietā prostatas vēža nāves gadījumu skaitā starp Eiropas Savienības valstīm. Kopš 2021. gada Latvijā ir pieejams valsts apmaksāts prostatas vēža skrīnings vīriešiem no 50 līdz 75 gadiem, agrāks skrīnings pieejams tiem vīriešiem, kuriem ģimenes anamnēzē ir prostatas vēzis. Materiāli un metodes: Pētījums izstrādāts izmantojot anketu, kura izsniegta vīriešiem vecumā no 45 līdz 75, kamēr viņi gaidīja vizīti pie sava Ģimenes ārsta.
Background: Latvia had the highest prostate cancer death rate in the EU in 2017. Since 2021 state-funded screening is available for men aged 50-75, earlier screening for those with a positive family history. Materials and methods: A questionnare was handed out to men aged from 45 to 75, while they were waiting for their Family Physicans appointment. Results: A total of 143 men participated in the study, with an average age of 60.4. Most men knew about the prostate cancer screening program, but education level significantly affected knowledge of availability. Most respondents had not previously participated in the program. Lower levels of education were found to be associated with lower participation rates, while employment status did not appear to have a significant impact on participation. Conclusions: The study shows that there is a low level of prostate cancer screening knowledge among Latvian men. Men should be more informed by their Family Physicans and their team members, also more information should be made available on media, news and other platforms, to reach more men and raise level of knowledge.
