Abstract
Title of the thesis: Systematic review: Impact of musical rhythm exercises on children with reading disorder. Target of the thesis: Systematically compile and analyse available studies on the perception of musical rhythm exercises and the development of phonological processes in children with reading disorders. Research methods: Used databases for data collection: PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect. EBSCO. The study only includes articles that are open to the public and in full amount, which are not older than 10 years and have met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The PEDro scale had to be used to evaluate the quality of the studies included in the systematic review. All analyzed articles obtained five points. Research question: Does the musical rhythm perception and exercises contribute with phonological awareness in children with reading disorder? Results: The systematic review analyzed three studies, which shows that children with developmental dyslexia are experiencing reduced results in musical rhythm tasks. It was found that the perception and performance of these tasks are closely related to the development of phonological awareness and literacy. Conclusions: There is a relationship between successful musical rhythm reproduction and performance in reading literacy, the higher the results in terms of music rhythm perception and repetition, the better results in phonological process testing and reading tasks. In children with developmental dyslexia, the perception of psychoacoustic stimuli is almost twice as slow as in younger children with typical development. There is a relationship between the speed, accuracy and phonological understanding of metric pulsation tasks. Keywords used: reading, dyslexia, music, rhythm, phonology. Thesis contains: 34 pages, five tables, 42 sources of literature used and two appendixes.
