Abstract

Abstract The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to find out the understanding of inpatient and outpatient nurses on the importance of correct action in obtaining qualitative blood samples. Nurse’s understanding of all sampling processes, as well as any possible mistakes, is ensured by nurses' education, knowledge and skills. In the theoretical part of the work, the actions of nurses in the process of venous blood sampling were researched and reviewed. Quality indicators of the pre-analytical phase of laboratory tests related to blood sampling processes were examined. Quality blood samples for laboratory examinations will be provided by: filling in the correct examination request, informing the patient about the preparations for laboratory examinations, correct identification of the patient before sampling, fulfillment of the requirements specified in the blood sampling instructions, labeling of samples. The study concludes that nurses in both study groups understand what is a valid and qualitative sample for laboratory examination. In both study groups, nurses have an understanding of which are the stages of the pre-analytical phase of laboratory tests, what actions a nurse performs in the process of obtaining qualitative blood samples. Approximately 40% of nurses in both study groups fully agree to identify patients with a single identifier, which, however, does not provide completely secure patient identification. Labeling of samples after sampling should always be performed in the presence of the patient. When asked about the labeling of samples, less than half of the respondents in the inpatient group indicated the correct answer. Keywords: nurse’s action, preanalytical phase, qualitative blood samples
